Manufacturer: Ranbaxy
Pharmaceutical name: Ciprofloxacin
Pack: 4 pills (750 mg)
Cifran is utilized for the treatment of bacterial infections. It is a synthetic broad-spectrum antibacterial agent designed for oral use. The active ingredient in Cifran is Ciprofloxacin. In addition to treating bacterial infections, Cifran may also be administered to prevent or mitigate the effects of anthrax following exposure.
For adults, the recommended starting dosage is 250 mg taken twice daily. In cases of severe or complicated infections, adults may require a dose of 500 mg taken twice daily. The duration of Cifran treatment typically ranges from 7 to 14 days, depending on the patient's health improvement. For severe conditions such as acute abscess, pneumonia, endocarditis, and central osteitis, a dosage of 750 mg twice daily is indicated. The full course of Cifran treatment lasts between 4 to 6 weeks. For gonorrhea, a single dose of 250 mg is recommended. Cifran should not be prescribed to children under the age of 15.
It's important to not skip any doses. If you forget a dose of Cifran, take it as soon as you remember. If it's almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one and return to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once.
Avoid using Cifran if you are allergic to any of its components or to other fluoroquinolones (e.g., levofloxacin), if you have had a recent live, oral typhoid vaccine, or if you are taking cisapride or tizanidine. Please contact your doctor or healthcare provider immediately if any of these conditions apply to you.
Common side effects primarily occur in the digestive system and may include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and stomach pain. Other less pronounced side effects can include dizziness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, nightmares, and tachycardia. None of these side effects are typically harmful to the patient. Generally, if Ciprofloxacin is taken according to recommendations, side effects should last no more than 2 days. If side effects persist, consult a healthcare professional.
Symptoms are expected to start improving within 24 hours of initiating antibiotic treatment. Seek medical help if symptoms do not improve or worsen, or if you experience any of the following: severe diarrhea and vomiting leading to dehydration, blood or green/yellow mucus in stool accompanied by severe abdominal pain, diarrhea associated with rashes, or high fever and headache along with diarrhea, particularly in areas where malaria is prevalent.
Store Cifran at room temperature, away from moisture and heat. Ensure that Cifran is out of reach of children and pets.
